Sew Your Favorites-Tips on handy pieces you love

Find something you like just keep that piece and use it with everything...

I make the long dresses by the method described with double folds

1.

At this point you just cut out your dress so you will have a front and back piece exactly the same.   So you then cut a neckline a little lower so it is going to be the front.

I have a separate Cowl neck piece I use on everything.

I have a pocket piece I use on everything.

This shape pocket can go in any side seam, or make no side seam quick pants and make this piece sewn together and flip and top stitch on top of pants lining up with side seam and leave opening for hand.  Still a great pocket

I have a bigger pocket piece I use on coats.

I have a burlap like piece of fabric on my wall to hang the pieces I use over and over..... collars, pockets, sleeves, cuffs

I have a sleeve I use on everything ...unless I am doing my favorite cut out one back piece squared...cut in have and becomes two rectangles for front pieces...take two more rectangles the front piece size for two baggie sleeves.  This can be used for a caftan type long dress... but cut one front in half if long... and fold your fabric once over creating a fold...and then fold over again so you have two folds and that will create a front and back with no seam.  Cut one down the middle.

Just make the neckline for your front a little lower scoop so your neckline is not too high in the front.

This dress is a double fold cut out sweater knit and infinity scarf madeout of the same material. The neckline is a cowl collar.  The Jacket is an unlined boucle all self trimmed.

No facings-self fringed Jacket..Trim is the selvage that had some metallic thread in it.   I just couldnt throw it away, so I cut it off and the used it as trim.   There wasn't enough for the bottom and sleeves so I just pull the bottom strings and made fringe by folding up after fringing and topstitching.  Easy to get matching trim edging without buying anything more.

This dress is similarly made with a fold in half - foldover again and then cut front and back the same on the fold( you will have two folds so when you cut the length of your dress it will give you a front and back the same.  The front of your dress you just make the neckline scoop a little more.

The cowl collar is made by just using a contrasting color.

Sew right sides together the side seam then sew right sides together bottom seam.... flip and sew neck edge top stitch and sew on neck line sew it flips down over your sew edge and leaves a smooth neckline edge.
